Scripture Breathes

Scripture was not an ancient artefact for the people of Israel but a living word, accompanied by an oral tradition and scribal exegesis. The key question was not what such and such a text might have meant in its original setting, even if that could be reconstructed, but how the text was being interpreted in the first century.
