Predestination and Dependence
Schweizer claimed to be a Reformed theologian but was heavily influenced by Schleiermacher. The latter saw religion as a “sense and taste for the infinite” (Sinn und Geschmack fürs Unendliche) and a “feeling of absolute dependence” (Schlechthinniges Abhängigkeitsgefühl). Schweizer believed he was able to identify this feeling of absolute dependence with the Reformed doctrine of predestination.
