James Barr on Inspiration
The conception of inspired scripture encouraged a more literalist approach. If God had inspired scripture, he had inspired not only its general meaning but its detail. Even the smallest element was there for some reason. A translation which wanted to pass on to readers the full data needed for religious life had therefore to give full representation to such elements.
